Ohio - Indiana - NYC - Colorado - Washington State
I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana for my BA in English. After earning my MFA in creative writing and MA in literature at Indiana University, I taught creative writing at the college level everywhere from Butler University in Indiana, to Fordham University in New York City, to Aims Community College in Colorado. After a decade of teaching I decided to give writing a full-time go, and it stuck.
I appreciate everywhere I’ve lived, but the Pacific Northwest is easily the most beautiful and geographically diverse place I’ve ever been. I absolutely adore Washington’s mountains, water, and trees.
These days I live in Seattle and am a freelance writer specializing in outdoor adventure. My bylines include: Escape Collective, Bicycling, Trail Runner, Women’s Running, Backpacker, Outside, Gear Junkie, Triathlete, Esquire, GQ, Runner’s World, Adventure.com, Outside Business Journal, The Radavist, Fodor’s, 5280, Field Magazine, Atlas Obscura, Like the Wind, and others.
I’ve also done Brand work for: Airstream, Strava, CamelBak, ON Running, Tracksmith, TPC, Velocio, and Topo Designs.
I’m always open to stories and projects: micahling007@gmail.com
